You can't choose your family, but if you're petty enough, you can choose if your family looks stupid or not. This woman already wasn't on good terms with her attention-stealing half sister, and when she got wind that she was gonna go all out for her party, she decided to change things up last minute just to mess with her. It feels like it would be easier to just have an honest conversation with someone rather than have a whole party to make them feel stupid, but we all know a few people who are so bad at taking hints that this avenue is at least cathartic.
Honestly, it doesn't get much more petty than this. The internet applauded the impressive spitefulness, but also pointed out that she should fear retaliation if she ever expects to have this person at any event in the future.
